What’s next? : Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire

Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire once recognized among the top pound for pound best boxers in the world by the boxing media and the casual fans. Outside me who saw Donaire as an unsound boxer making a career of defeating blown up flyweight pressure boxers with no defense, and this gave Donaire a physical advantage with a height of 5’ 5½” and a reach of 68”. This was more apparent when the defensive boxer at 5’3” Omar A. Narvaez moved up in weight and boxed around Donaire who could not find a way to really do any damage against Narvaez. Then his fight versus Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. in 2012 basically a raw boxer with little experience in professional boxing gave him a tough fight.

In one of the most anticipated fights of 2013 it was no surprise that Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux with a height of 5’4 ½” and just 11 professional fights and 8 KO and with an outstanding amateur record just exposed Donaire’s unsound boxing. I have been one to be never fooled by Donaire and at 126 lbs. he is not fooling many in boxing.  Days ago Vic Darchinyan was stopped in 9 rounds but was winning the fight and landing power shots and made Donaire look very vulnerable.

There is now talk of Donaire vs. the Jamaican KO artist and WBA Featherweight Champion Nicholas “Axe Man” Walters 23-0 (19KO). I expect Nicholas Walters to KO Donaire and end his brief run at 126 lbs. Donaire best stay away from Orlando Salido even at this stage of his career, because Donaire doesn’t have the power to keep Salido’s pressure at bay. Nor does Donaire have the skills to handle Lomachenko , and he best forget about a rematch versus Rigondeaux.
