The New Era by M. DeTyrone

In my opinion, a hall of famer must have at least 21+ world title fights with a winning record, and at least 12 to 15 fights vs. ex-world champions. Once Mayweather jr., Cotto, Pacquiao and Marquez retire the will be a void to fill. When that era ends a new one begins. In this new era which boxers are on their way to possibly becoming the next stars and the future of boxing? Eliminating the prospects but focusing on the current and ex champions. Here is my top 10 list:

1.      Roman “El Chocolatito” Gonzalez: 27 year old, current record 39-0 (33KO), out of Managua, Nicaragua. He’s 5’3” with a reach at 63” in world title bouts he has a record of 9-0 (5KO) and 4-0 (2KO) vs. ex-world champions and current champions. He’s one of this era’s best talents.

2.      Danny “Swift” Garcia: 26 years old, current record 28-0 (16KO), out of Philadelphia, USA of Puerto Rican ancestry. He’s 5’8.5” with a reach at 68.5 and a 6-0 (2KO) in world championship bouts and 6-0 (2KO) vs. ex-world champions or current world champions.  Current WBA Super World Light Welterweight Champion and WBC Light Welterweight Champions. He’s defeated Nate Campbell, Kendall Holt, Erik Morales (2), Amir Khan, Zab Judah, and Lucas Matthysse.  Garcia will likely finish his career in the Jr. Middleweight division.

3. Juan “El Gallo” F. Estrada: 24 years old, current record 26-2 (19KO) out of Sonora, Mexico. He’s 5’4” with a reach at 66” and has a record of 2-1 (0KKO) in world championship bouts, and 1-2 (0KO) vs. ex-world champions or current champions. Estrada’s best win was vs. Brian Viloria and has been defeated by Roman Gonzalez and Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. Estrada is one of Mexico’s best talented boxers and is currently the WBO Flyweight champion, and WBA Super World Flyweight Champion.

4.      Keith “One Time” Thurman: 25 years old, current record 23-0 (21KO) out of Florida, USA. He’s 5’7.5” with a reach at 69” with good boxing and power at 154 lbs. and 147 lbs.  Record: 3-0 (2KO) vs. ex-world champions or current champions. His victories have been over Carlos Quintana, Jan Zaveck, and Julio Diaz, but no true defining fight.

5.      Devon Alexander: 27 years old, current record 26-2 (14KO) out of St. Louis, Missouri, USA. He’s 5’8.5” with a reach at 70” that has fought quality opposition with a record of 7-2 vs. ex-world champions or current champions. He’s a former IBF & WBC 140 lbs. World champion.
